This is a beautiful solid brass decorative antique reproduction of a Celestial Armillary Globe that sits on three elegant legs. Celestial globes developed over four thousand years ago. Greek, Chinese and Muslim astronomers were the first to build up this unique instrument. Closely related to sextants and armillary spheres, celestial globes were based on a model of an outer sphere of stars and celestial bodies which circled the Earth. The first models were built to represent the complicated celestial movements.
This decorative reproduction of a celestial globe includes the names of the 12 astrological signs engraved into the globe in Arabic letters. The outside lid which opens half-way, is engraved with the signs of the Zodiac and is printed with Arabic letters on the outer edge.
